When it rains it snows

Well, at least that’s how Google says it works…

Watching the rain is so therapeutic and peaceful. I have to admit, when I lived on the East Coast, I took rain for granted. Where I live, we are lucky to get over 60 days of rain a year! California experiences a drought every year. The wildfires have been insane, this rain was needed.

It never fails. My son loves to play in the puddles when it rains.

This year we were on the lookout for the rain because we knew we wanted to play in the snow.

Big Bear is not too far from us and that is our destination for all things snow related. Today we took a short trip up the mountains and had fun for a few hours.

We should have brought gloves. My son was fine but of course, we are the parents and should know better!

Next time…

Pinterest

2018 is almost at an end and I have to admit I feel like I have not been very productive in my business. Despite, newly renovating the blog and adding additional resources, I know there is so much more on my to-do list. This year my focus was on my mental and emotional health.

I am very much a goal oriented person. As much as I loved feeling my internal improvement, I am human. Of course I want to see results also. I am very happy with my growth with Pinterest over the past year. It has kept me motivated during this time.

In 2019 I look forward to continue to grow my business using Pinterest.

Day in the Life Summer Day

This is an example of a typical summer homeschool day for us.

9:35am

My son woke up this morning and asked to watch the Jungle Book movie. This most likely happened because he listened to a short audio version the night before for his bedtime reading. I consider this a parental win!

There are about 3 versions of this movie. We watched the latest remake made in 2016. The graphics are outstanding! There are lots to animals to spot and discuss.  My son spotted monkeys, snakes, brown bear, flying bats and more.

11:40am

After watching the movie, my son had a break with his toys in his room for about an hr.

Noon

Lunch

*We often times do not follow a strict schedule. So while I’m working on preparing lunch or getting the afternoon lesson ready he will complete his math tasks for the day. Most days this lasts for about an hour depending on the lesson.

1pm

For this 4th grade year, I will not be “teaching” Math. All of the curricula mentioned is completed online.

We use a combination of http://www.teachingtextbooks.com, http://www.ixl.com, and http://www.khanacademy.com for the lectures and practice. Today my son used the latter and learned about Roman numerals. A subject in which he ASKED to learn.

Again, he ASKED to learn about that…

For the other subjects, we work out of the curriculum workbooks or find subjects from our library books to study about.

2:10pm

All homeschool activities were completed.
